However, one day, a young and stubborn monk apprentice had enough and rebelled against his masters. He started it out in silence and gathered quite a few followers. Their hatred just kept on growing and growing until it exploded. One night, they burnt down the place. Some people say an evil spirit took over the young man’s soul and planted the seeds of destruction, to get rid of the Statue Palace, which symbolised the light and hope.
