It seems a wealthy land owner kidnapped him to blacmail the chief into giving lands to him, so he can cultivate and produce more. These lands mean a pretty important part of the tribe’s livelihood, seizing them would mean starvation. Not to mention how cruel thing it is to kidnap a child and blackmail the parents.
