They took anything of value, including lot of gold of course. A certain percentage of this pray had to be sent back to the Crown, but naturally the conquistadors didn’t forget to take out their part of the treasure. They hid their treasure wherever they could. However, the New World wasn’t the safest place to be, especially not the southern regions, so most of the conquistadors never saw their gold again because they died before they could have returned.
